ABOUT US
Constitution is nothing but establishment of a Commission. The Women's Commission is set to improve the status of women in the state and union territory and to enquire into unfair practices affecting women and for matters connected therewith. In regard, the Pondicherry State Council of Women's Commission was established in 25th October 2004 with the key position - Chairperson and other positions to do best of services for women in and around Pondicherry. The Commission has extended its geographical dispersion to the four districts of the state - Pondicherry, Mahe, Yanam and Karaikal. The head office of the Pondicherry Women's Commission is housed at the heart of the city, Pondicherry and it provides simple access to rural and urban women in concerns.
The Commission constitutes an expert committee for dealing with special issues that is taken by the Commission from time to time. Most of the complaints received are related to domestic violence, harassment, rape, bigamy, refusal, cruelty by husband, sexual harassment at work place, separation, property disputes and so on. Pondicherry Women's Commission stands first to embark upon issues in the community takes action against the unfair practices. Every case to the entry of the Commission is filed and terminated with the minimum time. The concerns are settled at free of cost and priority is given to imperative cases. The entire team in the Commission is involved in addressing the issues.
Pondicherry Women's Commission consists of a Chairperson, the renowned and committed person with sufficient knowledge and experience in dealing with and solving the Women's problems that they are facing everyday at Pondicherry. The Chairperson is keen in attending workshops and seminars to know the key details of the women in Pondicherry. The Commission is functioning with more than Ten staff, are trained to deal and help women in crisis when they approach Women's Commission. The rights of women in Pondicherry are well known to them through streams of awareness programs. The Commission is in the path of success within a year efforts taken in promoting Women Associations for women from outlying regions and remote areas. The Commission extends its service to these associations in order to help all sections of the society and to avail services of the Pondicherry Women's Commission during traumas and concerns.
